After turning gross-out humour into gross profit with Dumb & Dumber and There's Something about Mary, the Farrelly brothers lost the element of surprise. Here, they attempt to recapture that old magic by sending up the midlife crisis of a suburban married man. Owen Wilson has even trimmed his locks to fit the coming-of-middle-age role of Rick, whose lustful imaginings (not involving wife Jenna Fischer) ludicrously lead his other half to grant him a week off marriage (a marital "hall pass", if you like). In order to cast Rick in a more favourable light, the Farrellys have given him an utterly obnoxious partner-in-crime in the shape of best pal Fred (Jason Sudeikis). But actually, as the two wannabe adolescents trawl bars for girls, the friendship only reflects badly on Rick, though Wilson's awkward charm keeps the film from being totally unbearable. Still, it's tough to root for him, and potentially funny insights are quickly drowned in a constant stream of bodily fluids, like the sweat of desperation as the Farrellys struggle to recapture their glory days.

Two restless married men strike a deal with their wives - they will all take a one-week break from their marriages and act like they are single. However, they find getting back into the life of a swinging bachelor harder than expected, while the thought of how their wives are spending the week proves a constant worry. Comedy, starring Owen Wilson, Jason Sudeikis, Jenna Fischer and Christina Applegate.
