Crime thriller, starring Daniel Radcliffe
This tense, thought-provoking thriller follows an FBI agent as he infiltrates a gang of white supremacists. Played by Daniel Radcliffe, the agent is introduced as a bookish, bespectacled outsider who is casually disrespected by his co-workers. In spite of this, a senior colleague (Toni Collette) believes that he has the skills to succeed as an undercover operative, so she recruits him to penetrate a "white power" organisation. Indeed, after he gets close to a group of thuggish skinheads, he earns the trust of the organisation's key players. First-time director Daniel Ragussis moves the plot forward from there in a way that will feel familiar if you've seen your share of undercover movies. Happily, though, the film has a sense of authenticity (the story is credited to a former FBI agent), and Radcliffe is convincing in the lead. There is very little action, but Imperium has some intense sequences and offers more complexity than you might imagine.
