The further adventures of Lightning McQueen show Pixar's favourite boy racer (voiced by Owen Wilson) feeling his age. In order to keep pace with the upstart leading pack, Lightning puts himself at the mercy of young trainer Cruz Ramirez (Cristela Alonzo), whose modern methodical approach clashes with his rubber-burning old-school ways. After the last film's cluttered spy spoof plot, director Brian Fee gets the franchise back on track by making motor racing once more the primary focus. This being Pixar, there is the usual attention to detail, both visual and verbal, and neat little touches to make the audience smile, not least Lightning's newly installed dashboard computer Hamilton (voiced by Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton). Boasting genuine heart under the hood and a full tank of funny moments, this is a welcome return to the winners' podium for the franchise.
