An injured equestrian stuntman develops a bond with his insurance agent.
French writer/director Denis Dercourt returns to form almost a decade after The Page Turner with a charming romance based on the experiences of French Paralympian Bernard Sachsé. Beautifully photographed in the glorious Breton countryside, the story would seem far-fetched if not rooted in fact. Paralysed in an accident on location, film stuntman Marc (Albert Dupontel) befriends insurance adjuster Florence (Cécile de France) after his claim is contested by the production company. Uneasy at being a corporate cog and bored with her perfect family life, Florence is inspired by the wheelchair-bound Marc's determination to ride again to revisit her youthful ambition to become a concert pianist. But Dercourt avoids overt melodramatics to explore the narrative's various bonds of trust, as Marc strives to regain the confidence of his horse and Florence reassesses her loyalties. Even the inevitable romantic interlude is nicely judged, as the testy Marc and the detached Florence let down their guards.
