Alvin and the Chipmunks: the Road Chip

The flagging fourth film in the furry franchise has Alvin and co fearing that hapless human "minder" and resident fall guy Jason Lee is going to dump them for marriage to a single mum with an obnoxious teenage son. So they set out cross-country to scupper his proposal plans. And there's your plot. If as much thought was poured into the content as the franchise's secondary titles (The Squeakquel, Chipwrecked, The Road Chip), then these creature features could entertain grown-ups as much as children. Still, they're huge hits with younger kids who just can't seem to get enough of the can't-fail blend of funny voices, fart jokes and kindergarten comedy. But, despite some cute moments here, it's a formula that's starting to wear thin. Any further sequel should plump for They've Had Their Chips as a subtitle.
