Taken 2

Taken 2

Our Score
Given the unexpected success of the first Taken movie, which established Liam Neeson as a bona fide action star in his mid-50s, this sequel was perhaps inevitable. Plotwise, it's pretty much the same as the first film, the twist here being that it's Neeson's retired CIA agent who gets kidnapped along with his ex-wife (Famke Janssen), leaving it to daughter Maggie Grace to help free them. It's certainly a dafter proposition than the original, with some unintentionally funny moments along the way, often involving grenades and their hilariously haphazard use. Equally, though, Olivier Megaton's film is often aware of its own stupidity, and doesn't take itself too seriously. One mild disappointment is the generic action sequences, which are fast and frantic but nothing particularly special. But, shortcomings aside, this rattles along entertainingly and, at barely 90 minutes, doesn't outstay its welcome.

Former CIA agent Bryan Mills and his ex-wife Lenore are taken hostage in Istanbul by an Albanian gangster, whose son Bryan killed while bringing down a kidnapping ring. He is able to escape with the aid of his daughter, and together they fight to rescue Lenore and wipe out the criminal family. Action thriller sequel, starring Liam Neeson, Maggie Grace and Famke Janssen.
