Review

Our Score
Female revenge flicks range from the soberly serious (Handgun) or cult (Ms 45) to the rather disappointing (The Brave One) or downright nasty (I Spit on Your Grave). This low-key horror thriller from XX/XY director Austin Chick aspires to cult status in its focus on young student Shae (Danielle Panabaker), who's dumped by her married lover and then raped by a creep she meets on a night out. Good job she has a friend in the doll-like if sociopathic Lulu (a hard-to-ignore Nicole LaLiberte), who takes it to the opposite sex in no uncertain terms - shootings, amputations and samurai swordplay are all the same to her. Violent though the film is, Chick does demonstrate some style and exercise restraint instead of going for casual exploitation and gratuitous blood-letting. But the issue of female empowerment is eventually overshadowed by a psychobitch face-off à la Single White Female with a soupçon of Fight Club thrown in for good measure.

Summary

A young woman's night on the town ends in terror when she is raped by a man who offered her a lift home. The police prove unsympathetic to her plight, so she and her friend embark on a violent quest for revenge on those they hold responsible for a variety of crimes against women. Horror, starring Nicole LaLiberte, Danielle Panabaker and Matthew Rauch.
