A remake of the 2009 Argentinian Oscar winner, this sombre thriller concerns a group of FBI investigators whose lives are torn apart by a brutal murder. Set in Los Angeles, the story follows Chiwetel Ejiofor's former agent as he informs ex-colleague Julia Roberts that he has finally found the suspect they were chasing 13 years before - the man who raped and murdered her daughter. Ejiofor persuades Nicole Kidman's district attorney to re-open the case, and writer/director Billy Ray uses lengthy flashbacks to reveal how the killer avoided prosecution. The film itself doesn't generate much suspense, but it does engage as a morally ambiguous tale about loss and obsession, with Ejiofor providing excellent work as a man who is haunted by his past.
