Our Score
In this sequel to the surprise 2014 hit, Ice Cube's grizzled detective James takes his soon-to-be brother-in-law Ben (Kevin Hart) - now a rookie cop - to Miami on the hunt for a drugs kingpin. If it all sounds familiar, that's because it is. Aside from a couple of amusing action scenes and a limp romantic intrigue for James (in the shape of Olivia Munn), this follow-up stays astonishingly close to the first film's plot, with the talented leads - joined by The Hangover's Ken Jeong - left scrambling to put together something new. No-one tries harder than Hart, once again risking life and limb in pursuit of a punchline. With a stream of ridicule directed at his co-star, Ice Cube seems to be enjoying himself as the glaring straight man, although he may be the only one who is. All but the most devoted Kevin Hart fans will feel slightly cheated by a lazy film from returning director Tim Story who seems happy to deliver another in a lengthy list of disappointing buddy cop sequels.

Excitable beat cop Ben longs to work alongside his fiancee's brother, hard-boiled detective James, who does not think he has what it takes. James decides to show Ben that he is not cut out for the job by recruiting him to help bring a drug dealer to justice. Comedy sequel, starring Ice Cube, Kevin Hart and Olivia Munn.
