Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

B-western stalwart Rod Cameron walks tall in this solid if well-trodden yarn about a former marshal, now a fugitive, who straps on his guns again when his brother is murdered in a lawless Texas town. All the usual elements are present - the laconic hero; the corrupt saloon owner; some killer henchmen and glamorous heroines - but the 6ft 4in Cameron proves an imposing presence when it comes to gunplay and fisticuffs. Indeed, a brutal bar-room brawl and a rain-drenched shoot-out do much to elevate this low-budget horse opera above the routine. Also noteworthy is an appearance by future Pink Panther director Blake Edwards (who also co-wrote and co-produced the film) as a dapper young gunslinger who's determined to test Cameron's quick-draw reputation.
