Comedy drama starring Anna Kendrick. Ex-maid of honour Eloise finds herself seated with other unwanted guests at her best friend's wedding.
An easy-going romantic comedy with uneven charms, this lightweight affair occupies that small space between John Hughes nostalgia and My Big Fat Greek Wedding vitality. Giving yet another sparkling performance in a middling movie, Anna Kendrick brings her winning appeal to the role of the now ex-maid of honour at her BFF's nuptials, having recently been dumped by the bride's brother. Seated at table 19, the Siberia for other losers the newlyweds felt duty-bound to invite, the motley crew become a makeshift family as they share their peccadilloes and desires and bond over reception adversity. The strong acting ensemble - including bickering Lisa Kudrow, self-deprecating Stephen Merchant and pot-smoking grandma June Squibb (who was Oscar-nominated for her ditzy turn in Nebraska) - rise above their comic ciphers with some winning gags and one-liners. But it's the 1980s pop hit cover versions and endearing Kendrick that count the most in this matrimonial malarkey.
