Review

Our Score
Also known as Mr Arkadin, this fascinating picture is a fearful mess that betrays, all too clearly, the financial and production problems with which Orson Welles had to contend. As in Citizen Kane, the subject is a mysterious, all-powerful man, but this time around the approach is one of self-parody and self-indulgence. Welles filmed it in his beloved place of exile, Spain, with a fancy cast and fanciful camera angles. The producers - quite a shady bunch of characters - took the movie, cut it and withheld it from American release for ten years.
