The Lost World

The Lost World

Timothy Bond (1992)

PG Certificate

Our Score
There are so many things wrong with this third cinematic adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's novel. It's unbelievably politically correct, the shoot in Zimbabwe locations makes Africa look like southern California, and half the movie goes by before the adventurers even get to the title location. Worst of all, the few dinosaurs we actually get to see have a remarkable rubbery appearance. Yet despite these and many more problems, the movie remains strangely watchable. Much of this credit is thanks to the likeable and talented cast, especially the superb John Rhys-Davis, who just may be the best Professor Challenger to date. Followed by Return to the Lost World, which was filmed simultaneously.

Two rival professors, a journalist, a young rich woman and a teenage boy travel through Africa in search of a lost world where dinosaurs still roam. Adventure inspired by the Arthur Conan Doyle novel, starring John Rhys-Davies and David Warner.
