Our Score
As with the best mockumentaries, this Australian comedy induces almost as many cringes as it does guffaws. Chronicling the bitchy, egotistical and, at times, downright creepy world of kids' dance competitions, it centres on two dance academies - the reigning champs, run by snooty traditionalist Jane Hall, and the Jazzketeers, whose teacher (Ben Miller) is committed to changing the world through dance. Both are pretty appalling creations, although most of the movie's venom is saved for the pushy showbiz mums, in particular the monstrous Kerry Armstrong, who thinks nothing of taking her young daughter to a cosmetic surgeon to improve her chances on the stage. While director Darren Ashton doesn't bring anything particularly new to the genre, his direction is suitably deadpan and he is rewarded with superb performances from his leads.

The ambitious and experimental teacher of a pre-teen dance academy is determined to see his performers win the first-place trophy in a contest. However, he faces stiff competition from the leader of the reigning champions, an iron-willed traditionalist who is on a mission to weed out the lazy and untalented girls from her ranks. Comedy, starring Ben Miller and Kerry Armstrong.
