Dracula: Dead and Loving It

Dracula: Dead and Loving It

Mel Brooks (1995)

Our Score
Mel Brooks's run of cinematic disappointments continued with this woeful spoof on vampire movies. Leslie Nielsen is dreadfully miscast as the count, although most of the blame must be levelled at director Brooks and his co-writers. They not only fail to demonstrate an understanding of the genre they're sending up, but also seem to have forgotten how to write a remotely funny gag. What makes it doubly depressing is that Brooks's other excursion into horror satire, Young Frankenstein, remains one of his best films.

An accident-prone Transylvanian vampire and his insane henchman travel to Victorian London. The bumbling bloodsucker tries to prey on his neighbour's daughters, but an eccentric scientist is on hand to stop him. Mel Brooks' horror spoof, starring Leslie Nielsen, Lysette Anthony, Amy Yasbeck and Peter MacNicol.
