Best of the Badmen

Our Score
A collection of western outlaws ride together in this innocuous RKO film. Robert Ryan is top billed as a former Confederate colonel pitted against a rather bland Robert Preston, while Stagecoach veteran Claire Trevor and Jack Buetel (as Bob Younger) provide able support. Red River's Walter Brennan makes the most of a then-topical (post Second World War) role as a former Quantrill's raider who wonders why there's now a price on his head for doing something that brought him glory in the Civil War. It's too talky and not terribly interesting, and really only notable today because of its cast.

A former Civil War cavalry officer sets out to help a notorious gang of vigilantes stay on the straight and narrow. However, his plan comes unstuck when a mercenary rival frames the former soldier for murder - leaving him forced to turn to the one-time outlaws for aid. Western adventure, starring Robert Ryan, Claire Trevor, Walter Brennan and Jack Buetel.
