The creators of Napoleon Dynamite, Jared and Jerusha Hess, here team up with offbeat comedian Jack Black for another endearing slice of comic eccentricity. Ignacio (Black) is an orphan who has been raised by friars at a Mexican monastery, but leads a double life as the masked wrestler Nacho to raise cash for his monastery orphans and (hopefully) impress the lovely Sister Encarnación (Ana de la Reguera). Black, with his stretchy outfits, insane fighting flair and outrageous accent, makes a highly appealing, sweetly goofy underdog, and he's well complemented by deadpan Héctor Jiménez as his tag-team sidekick. The Latin pop soundtrack is as delightful as the gentle slapstick quirkiness. While this is not an all-out laugh-riot, a passing interest in the sport of lucha libre (freestyle wrestling) and the culturally iconic Santo movies will definitely enhance your enjoyment of this Rocky-in-multi-coloured-spandex.
Plot Summary
Sports comedy starring Jack Black. Kindly cook Ignacio concocts a brilliant solution to the financial hardship of the Mexican monastery where he has grown up. He will become the famous masked wrestler Nacho, and win the hearts of both the underfed monastery orphans and the beautiful Sister Encarnación.
