Run All Night

Liam Neeson stars in this edgy thriller as a retired hitman who has one night to save his son from being killed by his former boss. Those expecting another Taken clone may be surprised to see a different twist on the "geri-action" formula. Director Jaume Collet-Serra crafts some decent action sequences, and the film's interesting visual style underlines the plot's claustrophobic, chase-movie feel. Neeson again plays an indefatigable one-man army, but brings a sense of regret to his world-weary warrior. The cast is also dense with strong character actors for him to spar with, including Ed Harris's unusually sympathetic villain and Vincent D'Onofrio as the detective on their tail. While it may not stray too far from familiar territory, Run All Night is fast-paced and entertaining, and further proof of the success of Neeson's action-movie rebirth.
