After the class-crossing passion of Titanic and her emergence as a star, Kate Winslet lets her hair down (and a lot more besides) in this lampoon on Australian bigotry from Jane Campion. Winslet plays Ruth, the daughter of a poor family from Sydney, who becomes a disciple of an Indian guru. Fearful of his influence over her, Ruth's family hires an American "exit counsellor" and cult buster (Harvey Keitel), who takes her to the outback and tries to break her spirit. Both funny and dramatic, this Smoke really does get in your eyes.
