After the class-crossing passion of Titanic and her emergence as a star, Kate Winslet lets her hair down (and a lot more besides) in this lampoon on Australian bigotry from Jane Campion. Winslet plays Ruth, the daughter of a poor family from Sydney, who becomes a disciple of an Indian guru. Fearful of his influence over her, Ruth's family hires an American "exit counsellor" and cult buster (Harvey Keitel), who takes her to the outback and tries to break her spirit. Both funny and dramatic, this Smoke really does get in your eyes.

Plot Summary

Comedy drama starring Kate Winslet and Harvey Keitel. Young Australian woman Ruth Barron seems to have found herself in the arms of a charming guru in India, much to the chagrin of her family, who hire cult specialist PJ Waters to clear her mind. But Ruth may prove to be a particularly difficult subject.
