Review

A star rating of 1 out of 5.

Filmed before the untimely death of star Paul Walker in 2013, this is a truly ghastly remake of District 13, a far better French action thriller from 2004. Proceedings are relocated from a near-future Paris to a near-future Detroit, but the plot remains the same: an undercover narcotics cop (Walker) has to team up with a vigilante free runner (David Belle, reprising his role from the original) to take down a drugs kingpin (RZA) who's holed up in a walled-off, no-go housing complex. But any similarities between this and the original end there. The film is poorly directed, edited, scripted, acted and everything else, and does scant justice both to Walker's presence and Belle's prodigious free-running skills.
