Our Score
Stars from the previous four Step Up movies reunite here to compete in a reality TV contest where the best street-dance crew wins a three-year contract at Caesar's Palace casino in Las Vegas. No Channing Tatum though, and if any instalment in this stale franchise needed the charisma of the star of the first two films, it was this one. There are still plenty of inventive routines, choreographed impressively and with gusto by music video director Trish Sie, especially the flame-throwing finale. It's the recycled plot, tired romantic complications, hackneyed rivalries and soap operatics between the dance-offs that are the trouble. Ending on the now too familiar "We are family" homily and the shock (!) revelation that reality TV isn't that real after all, there are no fresh moves whatsoever in this ho-hum hip-hop melodrama.
