Our Score
Five men trapped in a mysterious basement room following a trip in a lift tell each other their recurring nightmares in this suitably ghoulish companion piece to the excellent Tales from the Crypt (released the year before). Based on a terror title from EC comics like its predecessor, the fiendishly fun anthology features vampires, voodoo and grave-robbers in stories with such prescient titles as Midnight Mess and This Trick'll Kill You. There's a touch of class in the cast, too: siblings Anna and Daniel Massey on-screen together for the first and only time; a pre-Doctor Who Tom Baker as a vengeful painter; and Terry-Thomas and Glynis Johns in a tale of seemingly domestic bliss that goes savagely and horribly wrong. If you like your fright fables darkly droll, then this should certainly do the trick.

Five men in a lift end up trapped together in a basement, and share their recurring nightmares. A private eye tells a story of vampires, a man obsessed with tidiness drives his wife to murder, a magician learns the folly of crossing an Indian mystic, an author fakes his death, and an artist uses voodoo to get revenge on his enemies. Horror anthology, starring Daniel Massey, Denholm Elliott, Tom Baker, Anna Massey and Terry-Thomas.
