Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

Director Vincenzo Natali takes a break from the visceral horror he's best known for (Cube, Splice) to delve into the supernatural with this intriguing blend of The Others and Groundhog Day. Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine, Zombieland) plays Lisa, who initially appears to be a typical moody teenager beefing with her parents and younger brother. However, it soon becomes apparent all is not as it seems. Why is she seemingly living the same day over and over? Why can't the family leave their fogbound house? And who is the Pale Man? Guessing the answers won't really matter for this is an engrossing little chiller that has enough eerie twists and turns to thicken the mystery nicely. Breslin gives a convincing performance but it's Stephen McHattie (A History of Violence, Pontypool) as the smirking source of her torment who proves a magnetically malevolent presence.
