This John Wayne seafaring action adventure would have benefited from colour, but it still provides reasonable entertainment, despite its very studio-bound South Seas setting. Wayne and Luther Adler play rival shipowners who compete for the affections of Gail Russell during the search for a fortune in pearls. The Red Witch herself was used again in 1953's Fair Wind to Java, and now resides in the Hollywood Wax Museum on Hollywood Boulevard. Incidentally, Wayne named his film production company, Batjac, after the fictional shipping line in this movie.
Plot Summary
