Review

Our Score
Gun-for-hire Bruce Willis arrives in a small Texas town and gets involved in a gang war over bootleg alcohol in this weak Prohibition-era remake of the Japanese classic Yojimbo (which was also the source for A Fistful of Dollars). Every cliché in the Sergio Leone catalogue is dragged out and used to minor effect in this ham-fisted action thriller. Director Walter Hill gives the film an unattractive dusty look, and there are uniformly weak performances to match. Willis falls back on his usual constipated hardman act and the uninspired emphasis on bloody brutality leaves what little Hill has to say about courage and loyalty high and very dry.
