Horror inspired by Mary Shelley's novel, starring James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe. While visiting a circus in London, obsessive scientist Victor Frankenstein rescues a hunchback who is enslaved by the owner, names him Igor and employs him to assist with his experiments into the creation of life. But when Frankenstein's work falls foul of the authorities, Igor must try to pull him back from the brink of madness.
This spin on Mary Shelley's enduring gothic shocker is told from the perspective of Igor (Daniel Radcliffe), a circus clown who becomes the assistant of the brilliant physician Victor Frankenstein (James McAvoy) on a ground-breaking experiment. Radcliffe's efforts to provide the moral centre of the story are crowded out by McAvoy, who leaves all subtlety at the door with his maniacal (albeit occasionally amusing) performance. Andrew Scott does his best as the puritanical detective on Frankenstein's case, but his character is as underdeveloped as that of love interest Jessica Brown Findlay. Sadly, what starts out as a bold re-imagining of a classic all too quickly turns into a lumbering dud.
