A War of Children

A War of Children

George Schaefer (1972)

Our Score
George Schaefer, a former stage and occasional film director, was at his best with television drama, usually dealing with intimate, serious topics and this made-for-TV movie about the conflict in Northern Ireland is typical of his best work. Set contemporaneously to its production, this location-made docudrama was - and sadly remains - timely in its story of two families, the Catholic Tomeltys and the Protestant McCullums trying to remain friends against all the odds. When Jenny Agutter, the young daughter of the Tomelty family, falls in love with Anthony Andrews, a British soldier, an already tense situation leads to inevitable heartache.

A Catholic girl angers her friends and family by falling for a British soldier in the tense atmosphere of 1970s Belfast. Romantic drama, starring Jenny Agutter, John Ronane, Anthony Andrews and Danny Figgis.
