Disney updated its classic animated tale with this live-action version starring a deliciously over-the-top Glenn Close as infamous villain Cruella De Vil, the rich bitch who wants to turn loads of cuddly little dalmatian puppies into a fur coat. Jeff Daniels and Joely Richardson (as the couple trying to stop her) are slightly more subdued, but still turn in entertaining performances. The only complaint for older viewers (and those sentimental about the original) is that live dogs lack the variety of expression - and the vocals - of their animated counterparts. That said, children will love it.
