Koi... Mil Gaya

Koi... Mil Gaya

Rakesh Roshan (2003)

12 Certificate

Our Score
Science fiction is largely uncharted territory in Bollywood and director Rakesh Roshan has wisely entrusted the special effects to James Colmer, who worked on the likes of Independence Day. But while the technology is cutting edge, the narrative owes more to the Cold War allegories of the 1950s when extraterrestrials came to Earth to urge us to get along despite our differences. There are also echoes of ET and Close Encounters in the way that mentally disabled Hrithik Roshan accidentally makes contact with a spaceship using his inventor father's equipment. It's slick, sentimental entertainment, although the songs will probably alienate sci-fi aficionados.

Premiere. Shortly after a scientist develops a machine to communicate with alien life forms, he is tragically killed in a car accident, leaving his son, Rohit, to grow up without a father as his mind remains child-like. As the boy becomes a young man, he befriends a beautiful girl, and together they use the device designed by Rohit's dad to send a message into outer space, with unexpected results. Sci-fi romance, with Rekha and Hrithik Roshan.
