Our Score
In production around the same time as Robert Zemeckis's blockbuster Back to the Future, this bittersweet time-travelling comedy was inevitably the subject of comparison and was usually considered second best. Francis Ford Coppola's fantasy sees the unhappily married Kathleen Turner passing out during her 25th high-school reunion and waking up back in 1960, in the body of her younger self. Her nuanced performance beautifully re-creates the traits of teenagehood, and earned an Oscar nomination, while Nicolas Cage (whose performance was originally slated in many quarters) is amazing as the boy she knows will grow up into a slob. It's not Coppola's usual territory, and he overplays the Capra card a little, but he has fashioned a thoughtful, rewarding tale - even if he doesn't use a DeLorean car to get there.

A depressed fortysomething woman about to get divorced faints at a high-school reunion and awakes to find she has travelled back in time to her teenage years. Given the chance to put things right, she resolves to avoid a relationship with the man she is about to divorce. Comedy, starring Kathleen Turner, Nicolas Cage, Maureen O'Sullivan, Joan Allen, Catherine Hicks and Kevin J O'Connor.
