A Lawless Street

A Lawless Street

Joseph H Lewis (1955)

U Certificate

Our Score
This routine Randolph Scott western was directed by Gun Crazy's Joseph H Lewis who here fails to secure a satisfactory conclusion to the tale, which results in a particularly soppy ending. After this, producer/star Scott began his marvellous series of Budd Boetticher westerns that eschewed such sentimentality for good. Co-star Angela Lansbury was on her way up, between an MGM contract and Broadway revivalism, long before her popularity in the Murder, She Wrote TV series. And a darn fine western heroine she makes.

A long-serving marshal, who has done his utmost to the keep peace in the town of Medicine Bend, looks forward to a reconciliation with his estranged wife, a touring musical star. Just as she arrives in town, three notorious criminals show up and start causing trouble - and the lawman has to decide whether to hang up his guns for his wife's sake or do his duty. Western, with Randolph Scott, Angela Lansbury, Jean Parker and Warner Anderson.
