Oh dear. The combined talents of star Cary Grant and director Stanley Donen, so successful in both Indiscreet and Charade, fail miserably here, in a Fox remake of that old perennial "three sailors on the town" plot (a veritable Donen classic), this time set in San Francisco during the Second World War and based loosely on the novel Shore Leave. Despite the embellishments of a super score and CinemaScope location shooting, the movie never really catches fire, and is worth viewing now only as a 1950s period piece, with former supermodel Suzy Parker and blonde Jayne Mansfield particularly well displayed as Grant's love interests.
