Clearly influenced by the life of Dawn Fraser, who won swimming gold at three consecutive Olympics, this film was released straight to video in Australia. Ken Catran's script piles on the sporting clichés, but director Megan Simpson makes a decent job of capturing both the late 1950s period and the hothouse atmosphere of international competition. As the gangling teen forced to overcome personal tragedies and poolside setbacks to achieve her goal, Lauren Jackson gives a feisty performance, although she's less convincing as a lovestruck kid than she is as a never-say-die competitor.
