Our Score
On paper, Bachelorette appears to be a cheap cash-in on the success of 2011 comedy Bridesmaids with a focus on girls behaving badly on the eve of a wedding. However, it's actually based on writer/director Leslye Headland's 2010 play of the same name and is a much more acerbic gal-pal comedy than Kristen Wiig's surprise smash. The bachelorettes in question are control freak Regan (Kirsten Dunst) and her hard-partying "BFFs", Gena (Lizzy Caplan) and Katie (Isla Fisher), who are all a little put out that their chubby school friend (Rebel Wilson) is going to beat them to the altar. While on a booze and drug-fuelled bender on the night before the wedding, they accidentally destroy the wedding dress, leading them on a frantic late-night dash around New York to find someone to repair the damage. Although things get a little sombre at the end, this is a wonderfully rude and nasty romp, stacked with caustic one-liners and boasting terrific turns from the leading trio as mean girls reluctantly facing up to adulthood.
