A bereaved mother's relentless campaigning to protect vulnerable children forms the core of this emotional but clumsily constructed true story. Law & Order's Elisabeth Rohm is convincing as the anguished Texan who battles for the introduction of an official abduction alert system following her daughter's murder. The film shifts backwards and forwards in time, covering Amber's tragic death and its aftermath in procedural drama style, while drip-feeding details of her mum's subsequent mission. It's a confusingly disjointed approach that's fragmented further by the interweaving of another kidnapping case to illustrate the efficacy of the so-called "Amber Alerts". The over-sentimental music and a mass of shocking statistics complete the manipulative onslaught, making it impossible not to be moved.
