Review

Our Score
The story of America's most famous female sharpshooter here becomes a vehicle for Barbara Stanwyck. It was her first western, and she copes well enough, though she seems far too contemporary in looks and attitude for the feisty Ms Oakley. However, this is a still a thoroughly enjoyable early work from George Stevens, who went on to direct such classics as A Place in the Sun (1951), Shane (1953) and Giant (1956). Suave Melvyn Douglas and handsome Preston Foster both score highly in a film that studiously ignores history throughout.

Summary

Biopic of the sharpshooter, examining her rise to fame with Buffalo Bill Cody's Wild West Show. She falls for a fellow marksman, who teaches her the art of showmanship, but as she becomes the troupe's star attraction, jealous rivalry drives a wedge between them. Starring Barbara Stanwyck and Preston Foster.
