Michael Powell's final feature film is about an artist (James Mason) who runs out of inspiration and retreats to the Great Barrier Reef with his young model (Helen Mirren). "The film was full of nudity," wrote Powell, "but it is a painter's nudity." Filmed mainly on Dunk Island (now the Reef's priciest resort), it is undeniably beautiful and filled with engaging characters. Mirren is not the only actress who takes her clothes off; so does Clarissa Kaye, who later became Mason's real-life wife.
Plot Summary
Romantic drama starring James Mason and Helen Mirren. A famous painter settles on an island on the Great Barrier Reef to revive the quality of his work. His life is changed when he encounters a nubile young girl who is only too willing to pose for him.
