Safe Harbor

Safe Harbor

Jerry Jameson (2009)

Our Score
Treat Williams and Nancy Travis add class and heart to this simplistic true-life tale. The stars play a retired, childless couple who get thrust into the challenges of parenthood when a judge friend asks them to temporarily accommodate a group of delinquent teenage boys on board their houseboat. Well cast in the redemptive drama's only really convincing roles, the charmingly natural pair exude compassion and fairness, as their surly screen charges' troublemaking kicks off a predictable but affecting narrative arc. Uplifting moral messages about self-worth and second chances intensify the film's increasing emotional pull. They also temper the unreality of events in which every supporting character is a stereotype and problems are overcome almost as quickly as they arise.

A retired couple preparing to embark on a round-the-world sailing trip find themselves looking after a group of troubled teenage boys. The arrangement changes from short term to several months, but the experience proves a rewarding one for them and the kids, inspiring the couple to set up their own foster home. Drama, starring Treat Williams and Nancy Travis.
