The uninspired cycle of remaking seminal 1970s horrors (Halloween, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre) or notorious "video nasties" (Last House on the Left) continued with this pointless 2010 rehash of the 1978 censor-baiter. The story is the same: a young woman (Sarah Butler, reminiscent of a young Liz Hurley only with a tad more acting ability) decamps to a cabin in the wilds to write a book, is brutally raped by a bunch of priapic locals and then takes violent revenge. The terrifying concept of urbanites under threat from ferocious yokels is now a familiar one - indeed, the original owed much to infamous productions like Deliverance and Straw Dogs. So the problem here - apart from the initial assault, mercifully shorter than the 1978 version - is the total lack of originality, compounded by little in the way of suspense or atmosphere and the cardboard characterisation of Butler's attackers. Even the eye-for-an-eye retribution Butler exacts on her tormentors (quite literally, in one case) is just plain nasty and par for the course when the likes of Saw and Hostel have taken gore to another level. Definitely wince-inducing and not for the squeamish, but ultimately a mechanical exercise in cashing-in.

A writer staying in a remote cabin attracts the attention of a gang of local men, who break into the house and brutally attack and rape her. She is able to escape and seemingly drowns in a nearby river, but somehow survives and returns to take a bloody revenge on her attackers. Horror remake, with Sarah Butler and Daniel Franzese.
