Girl on Approval

Girl on Approval

Charles Frend (1962)

Our Score
A pithy little feature made by Eyeline Films for the then-new British film company Bryanston, about the angst of foster parenting, this film provides excellent roles for the hitherto underused Rachel Roberts and suave James Maxwell as the parents, and Annette Whitley as the lass up for fostering. Perhaps a little too self-consciously worthy, this is more interesting today for its view of the mores and fashions of what feels like a bygone age. Charles Frend was an extremely talented former editor who went on to become a fine director and is best known for The Cruel Sea and Scott of the Antarctic.

Emotional drama about a disruptive orphaned teenager's attempts to settle down with her caring foster parents. Starring Rachel Roberts, James Maxwell, Annette Whitley and Ellen McIntosh.
