The Truth about Women

The Truth about Women

Muriel Box (1958)

A Certificate

Our Score
A bizarre charade directed by Muriel Box, in which Laurence Harvey plays a sort of Don Juan character, recalling his amorous, exotic adventures in Arabia, Paris, London, New York, the First World War and beyond. The moral is that one's first love is the only love that matters - aaah! - but the problem here is that Harvey is also something of a cold fish, brilliant as the man on the make in Room at the Top but not overly furnished with plain, old-fashioned charm. The women (Julie Harris, Diane Cilento, Mai Zetterling among them) make the most of their extended cameos, servicing the hero (so to speak) and posing in their Cecil Beaton costumes.

A man recalls his relationships with the women he loved as he tries to help another man to understand them as well. Comedy, starring Laurence Harvey.
