Our Score
In this sobering drama, Meg Ryan proves no more adept portraying a drunk than she was playing an action heroine in 1996's Courage under Fire. As a wife and mother attempting to face life without the consolation of a bottle, she's guilty of trying too hard to convince. Andy Garcia is hardly more impressive as her insensitive husband, while Ellen Burstyn is wasted in a brief appearance as Ryan's mother. There's nothing about these people to make you care what happens to them, and ultimately the film drowns in its own good intentions.

Summary

A couple's outwardly idyllic marriage is close to disintegrating through the wife's alcoholism, prompting her husband to resort to desperate measures to make her give up drinking for their children's sake. However, he is also forced to face up to the part he played in allowing her life to go off the rails. Drama, with Andy Garcia, Meg Ryan, Lauren Tom, Ellen Burstyn, Tina Majorino and Mae Whitman.
