Our Score
In The Expendables of car chase movies, Vin Diesel leads an enormously enjoyable reunion of returning cast members from every chapter of the adrenaline-pumping Fast and the Furious franchise, as he and his bank-robbing cohorts plan one last mega-heist so they can disappear forever. The target is Rio's most corrupt businessman (Joaquim de Almeida), but they must also evade tenacious FBI agent Dwayne Johnson, who is closing in on their operation. Director Justin Lin overdoes the picturesque swooping shots, but that's the only blot on the high-velocity landscape, as the ingeniously insane plot provides train stunts, rooftop pursuits, and pedal-to-the-metal speed racing. Impossible to take seriously, with the ripped cast surely in on the joke (super-macho Johnson in particular is an absolute hoot), this is slick, white-knuckle action on an epic scale. The confrontation between Diesel and Johnson gets the big build-up, yet the undisputed highlight is when a huge bank vault strung between two cars becomes a lethal weapon during a motorway chase. Fantastic fun.

Criminal Dominic Toretto is broken out of prison by his partners in crime and together they flee to South America. They begin assembling a gang of crooks to carry out a heist in Rio, but the FBI's top manhunter is in the country and hot on their trail. Action adventure sequel, starring Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Paul Walker and Jordana Brewster.
