Home Sweet Home

Home Sweet Home

John E Blakeley (1945)

Our Score
Both Nicolette Roeg and Tony Pendrell were making only their second big-screen appearances in this slight musical comedy, and their inexperience shows. Not that music-hall favourite Frank Randle was any more familiar with the camera, as this was his first venture away from the four Somewhere in comedies. However, his slack-jawed clowning provides the only real interest in this backstage Cinderella story, in which orphaned Roeg is forced to tread the boards after Pendrell's stuffy parents block their marriage. The songs are best forgotten, but there's a chance to see some of the most popular stage acts of the day.

A comedian and his friends try to save an aspiring singer from the clutches of an unscrupulous nighclub owner. Musical comedy, starring Frank Randle and Nicolette Roeg.
