Extraterrestrial

In this half-hearted mash-up of The X-Files, War of the Worlds and Communion, five college friends go on holiday to a remote cabin in the woods. Naturally they are unaware the area is a close encounter hot spot, and end up whisked aboard a standard issue UFO populated by clichéd space invaders. Revelling in its B-movie conventions to little dramatic effect, this intergalactic slasher is often unintentionally hilarious. Although it displays some pretty impressive visual wizardry considering the minimal budget, even the presence of veteran genre character actor Michael Ironside (playing a grizzled Vietnam vet/conspiracy theorist/cannabis farmer) can't elevate the campy stodge. The final shot is undeniably ingenious and witty - but it's a long haul getting there.
