Review

Our Score
Director Tim Whelan was also one of four writers attempting to adapt George Eliot's famous novel about the tragic feud between the Tullivers and the Wakems, and the resulting Victorian period piece is to be recommended for its polished British cast. Geraldine Fitzgerald stars as Maggie Tulliver, in love with Frank Lawton, son of her father's archenemy Felix Aylmer, but fatally compromised by Lawton's friend Griffith Jones. James Mason is Tom Tulliver, Fay Compton Mrs Tulliver - and that's all you really need to know. The poignancy of the novel does, however, make itself felt.
