Dudley Moore plays the elf who loses his job with Santa and decides to sell his former employer's secrets to evil toy manufacturer John Lithgow in this rather daft family comedy. Directed by French-born Jeannot Szwarc (the man behind the camera for Jaws 2 and Supergirl), it boasts a great opening (which explains who Santa really is), but gets bogged down with infantile humour, a silly script and plot twists that a five-year-old would find insulting. One wonders whether Szwarc had presents delivered down his chimney the year this was made.
Plot Summary
Seasonal comedy starring Dudley Moore and John Lithgow. After creating havoc at the North Pole, Patch, one of Santa's elves, heads for New York to make a name for himself. In the big city, he teams up with BZ, a ruthless toy manufacturer and together they develop a fantastic new brand of candy. But Patch doesn't realise how dangerous the invention is in the hands of his sinister partner.
