Turbo

This slice of computer-generated cartoonery is the very essence of fast-and-furious fun. The eponymous hero here is a common-or-garden snail who, courtesy of a freak accident involving a race car and some supercharging nitrous oxide, finds himself imbued with blistering super speed. It's a case of one small slither for a snail, but one giant leap for snail-kind, as the accident allows Turbo to realise his lifelong dream to compete in the prestigious Indianapolis 500 race. Cleverly calling time on too much slime, Turbo's makers manage to make the snails both cute and cuddly. Add a sharp script, a top-notch voice cast (Ryan Reynolds, Paul Giamatti, Samuel L Jackson), and race sequences that have a genuine feel-of-the-wheel about them, and you've a family film that moves at anything but a snail's pace.
