Paul Anderson makes amends for his lacklustre Mortal Kombat here with another video game adaptation. A single-minded tale of genetic research facility workers accidentally turned into ravenous zombies, it's a relentless throat-grabber. Hingeing on grisly special effects, breakneck pacing and hard-hitting fight sequences, Anderson at least racks up the tension to claustrophobic levels. It really is like watching a video game come to life - should that appeal - as Milla Jovovich and a team of commandos move through progressively more dangerous levels to wipe out the undead. As with the film's source material, there's no enduring substance here. However, the nerve-jangling score, co-composed by shock rocker Marilyn Manson, gives it an extra frenetic edge.

Plot Summary

Sci-fi action horror starring Milla Jovovich and Michelle Rodriguez. When a mutant virus turns the workers at a hi-tech research facility into flesh-eating zombies, a crack team of soldiers must race against time to overcome the laboratory's super-computer system and stop the outbreak spreading.
