Hercules star Kevin Sorbo made the switch from television to the big screen with this sword-and-sorcery epic, based on characters created by Robert E Howard (of Conan fame). Barbarian Kull becomes King of Valusia, but his attempts to free his people bring him into conflict with shape-shifting sorceress Tia Carrere (Wayne's World, True Lies. It's a disjointed adventure and the good versus evil conventions of the genre are clichéd, but director John Nicolella (Miami Vice) gives the film a darker hue and edgier atmosphere than normal.
